Going On Vacation? 6 Reasons To See a Dentist First

Admin • December 18, 2023

If you're planning a vacation, now's the time to schedule a dental appointment. You might not think that a dental appointment is part of your vacation planning, but that's not the case. In fact, a pre-vacation dental visit can help you avoid problems while you're trying to relax and have fun.

Before you postpone your dental visit until after your vacation, read the list provided below. You'll find six compelling reasons to get a dental checkup before leaving on vacation.

Check Your Dental Appliances

If you're going on an extended vacation, you want to avoid issues with your dental appliances. That can include braces, clear aligners, retainers, and dentures. Broken or damaged appliances can cause serious problems, especially when you're on vacation.

One way to avoid problems is to have your dentist inspect your dental appliances before you leave on vacation. If you wear braces, be sure to pack an emergency supply kit. Your kit should include braces wax, OTC pain relief gel, and replacement bands.

Make Your Smile Its Brightest

If you're going to visit family and friends during your vacation, you can expect a lot of smiles and pictures. One way to make sure you're ready for those moments is to make sure your teeth are their whitest and brightest.

If your teeth are dull or stained, schedule a teeth whitening session with your dentist. A whitening session will remove the stains and restore the brightness of your smile.

Plan for Outdoor Adventures

Now that you're planning your vacation, think about the adventures you have on your list. If you have any outdoor adventures on the list, it's time to visit the dentist. Outdoor adventures like contact sports, skiing, and snowboarding, can all increase the risk of dental injuries.

That's why it's a good idea to see your dentist before you go on vacation. Your dentist can create a custom mouthguard for you. Custom mouth guards help protect your teeth, mouth, and gums from injuries.

Repair Existing Problems

If you have dental problems that you've been avoiding, don't postpone the appointment any longer. This step is especially important when you're going on vacation. Minor dental problems can turn into full-blown emergencies without proper care.

Unfortunately, it's not easy to get emergency dental care when you're on vacation. That's one of the benefits of visiting the dentist before you go on vacation. Your dentist can repair the existing dental problems before you go on vacation. That way, you can avoid emergency dental situations.

Identify Hidden Issues

If you haven't been to the dentist in a while, schedule an appointment right away. You could have dental problems that you don't know about. If you don't have any dental pain, you might think you're safe.

That's not the case though. Problems like gum disease, small cavities, and plaque buildup, don't always cause pain. When you get a dental checkup before going on vacation, your dentist can identify all those hidden issues that need dental care.

Avoid Bad Breath

If your next vacation involves a reunion, it's time to get your teeth cleaned. Brushing and flossing your teeth gives you a surface-level clean. But, it doesn't remove the plaque and bacteria that can cause bad breath.

Unfortunately, bad breath can put a damper on your vacation plans. Make a good impression. Schedule a cleaning with your dentist before you head out on your vacation. As an added benefit, your dentist can identify other issues that might have caused your bad breath.
